ESSENCE OF BEAUTY-OUTREACH PROJECT
PROJECT PURPOSE
The Outreach Project is intended overall to educate women especially women who do not have health insurance between 40-64, with culturally competent breast health information, to encourage them to schedule annual mammograms, and to provide referrals for screening services to African american women, Hispanic/Latina women, Lesbians, the disabled and the Senior population. The area we service includes Clark county, Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, with an emphasis on women residing in zip codes 89106, 89101 and 89030.
EMBRACES
This program embraces the goals of Healthly People 2010, a set of health objectives for the Nation to achieve over the first decade of the new century (www.healthypeople.gov). Goal one is to increase Quality and Years of Healthy Life and the second goal is to elimate health disparities.
REFERRAL
We are asking all individuals and organizations to refer any woman to us for mammograms and to call us for breast health presentations.
ADDRESSES
Our project address four of the following key areas in the targeted areas: 1) To increase the availablity of screening and treatment services for the unisured population, 2) To facilitate access and reduce barriers to breast health services, 3) To offer culturally competent breast health information and services, and 4) To increase knowledge of lifestyle risk factors connected with breast cancer through presentations and media.

KEY ACTIVITIES
Through collaborations with local community centers, health organizations and medical facilities, activities include 1) Presentations to targeted community groups at seniors centers, churches, community centers, and priovate and/or public clubs and associations. 2) Participation in networking groups and health fairs to promote our program and recruit our targeted population. 3) Referrals and follow-up of screening and mammograms, 4) distribution of culturally appropriate educational materials.
