High Tea
On Saturday, October 21, 2006 at the Bally's Hotel & Resort-Skyview Ballroom.The National Black Leadership Initiative on Cancer Las Vegas Coalition, Inc and the Witness Project of Las Vegas Honors Breast Cancer Survivors. Sandra P Jackson, an 11 years resident of Las Vegas received special recognition for her work in the community. The 2006 NBLIC Community Service Award was given to her for her outstanding leadership and humanitarianism throughout the Las Vegas community.
The Award
This was the first High Tea celebration for NBLIC.
The National Black Leadership on Cancer established by the National Cancer Advisory Board in 1989, is the first minority outreach initiative of the National Cancer Institute. Its purpose is to promote awareness among African American about cancer prevention and early detection and to promote utilization of available preventive and detection services.

Ms. Ballard is the creator of the HIV Impact and Prevention Project (H.I.P.P.) of Courage Unlimited. Ms. Ballard as well as Sandra are certified Sista Facilators. (Sista Project-Sistas Informing Sisters about Topics on AIDS is a peer led prevention intervention for women of color. This group-level, gender and culturally relevant intervention is designed to increase condom use with African American Women.

She calls it Essence of Beauty
Essence of Beauty was created in 1996. Sandra wanted other women to know that beauty comes from within. The progam consists of a retreat that brings together a diverse group of participants from survivors to medical practitioners to share information and education while providing an atmosphere of rest and relaxation. The Essence of Beauty Magazine is a tribute ot survivorship. It features stories of survival, articles and /or poems from friends and families of survivors, recent medical news and resource information. The retreat and magazine are provided when funding is available. Sandra will undergo Breast Reconstruction on November 4, 2006. She is also writing a book on her walk with breast cancer and reconstruction.
